It is based on the 1974 comedy film of the same name written by Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder and directed by Mel Brooks, who has described it as his best film. Dr. Frankensein aims to fulfill his grandfather's legacy by bringing a corpse back to life. With help and hindrance from servant Igor, buxom assistant Inga, and needy fiancee Elizabeth, his experiment yields success and unexpected consequences. The musical has all the charm of the classic comedy film, with the addition of some clever and hillarious songs, including "Putting On the Ritz."
